Ace GCSE Maths

Over the years I have spent teaching, I have noticed that the students who practised the 3 key secrets to succeeding at GCSE level generally performed better than those who did not focus on these important areas. As a result, my mission is to help more students to achieve academic success by sharing the Foundation Mastery Method to succeed in GCSE Maths.

1. Start early and practice consistently:

Most students leave revision for their Maths exam until the last minute. This results in them having insufficient practice of Maths exercises. Consequently, they do not develop the required skills that lead to successful outcomes that they desire, and as a result, lead to disappointment.

If you think about it, it is kind of like trying to build a skyscraper with no foundation. Just as a building without a foundation is likely to collapse, a student who tried to cram all their studies in at the last minute will likely struggle to retain and apply the necessary knowledge on the exam day, which may lead to poor performance.

Instead, it would be best if you started revising early so that your retention and understanding of the key skills and topics can improve. My top tips to help you master this step are:

· Develop a structured timetable for revising and diligently adhere to it.

· Break down the Maths exercises into smaller, more manageable parts.

· Get feedback and help from your teachers and tutors on your progress.

2. Focus on mastering the basics:

Many students do not have a strong foundation in the basics of Maths. This results in them lacking understanding of the more advanced topics, and as a consequence, this leads to students having lower confidence levels and can affect their overall academic performance.

Lacking a basic understanding of Maths is like navigating through a dense forest without a map or compass. Just as a traveller without a sense of direction is likely to get lost, a student without a solid foundation in Maths will likely struggle in their GCSE Maths studies. So it would help if you focused on mastering the basics in Maths to be able to successfully move on to more complex problems and apply your knowledge in real-life situations.

My top tips to help you master this step are:

· Identify any gaps in your knowledge that may exist.

· Practice the basics regularly so that it can help to reinforce your understanding and build confidence.

· Seek support from a teacher or tutor to clarify concepts and address any misunderstandings.

3. Seek extra help if needed:

Many students find it challenging to ask for help when struggling in Maths. They make statements such as 'I don't like Maths' or 'I'm not good at Maths' instead of seeking the help they need to progress in the subject. As a result, they lack confidence in their ability to perform well in the subject, which leads to them falling behind in their studies.

Not seeking help for Maths when needed is like driving with a blindfold on. It may seem fine at first, but eventually, it will lead to a crash. Just as a blindfolded driver cannot see the road ahead and risks making dangerous mistakes, a student who avoids seeking help for Maths will miss out on important information and jeopardise their academic progress.

So you need to seek help when needed from your teacher or tutor. This can help you to overcome the difficulties you may be experiencing in Maths and lead to academic success. My top tips to help you master this step are:

· Acknowledge that it is okay to ask for help and do not feel embarrassed or ashamed to do so.

· Identify your teacher or tutor as a source of support, which may make it easier to reach out for assistance when needed.

· Before seeking help, try to identify the specific areas that you are struggling so that you can receive targeted support.
